Home Portfolio Drawing Board 5000 DWT Hybrid Bulk Carrier
1. PROPOSED SPECS OF THE 5000 DWT HYBRID BULK CARRIER
The hybrid vessel will sail using fuel oil powered main engine and will switch over to fully battery (ESS) mode
during loading / unloading operations & port transit movements as mentioned below.
Battery is used for providing total hotel load during port operations (loading / unloading for 24 hours each) & for providing propulsion power during port enter / exit for a distance of 12 NM @ 6 knots speed.
The on-board genset OR motor generator will be used to charge the batteries & power the hotel load when the vessel is in sailing mode after leaving a port.
The emergency genset will be on standby for maintenance / breakdown / emergency usage.
Once charged, the battery pack will be again used for powering the hotel load & low speed movements at next port of call.
The objective of this hybrid bulk carrier is to reduce FO consumption and polluting emissions by operating on ESS when the vessel is loading / unloading and when the vessel is operating within 12 NM of port limits.
